I gotta let this off my chest otherwise I will only feel more angry and depressed as this keeps up. In my whole damned live I've been told to swallow up how I feel and be the better man or be stoic to what degree I dunno. Of course, having my various issues be addressed too late and not getting a lot of understanding really don't help. I think all these sums up together are doing great harm to me.
Anyway, let's get the meat of the issue. I am closing my Deviant Art account because I am tired of seeing my work with Life's a Glitch TV online and LAGTV arts being associated with me. You wonder why? This imgur.com/a/MLDxt
This is the final straw but I should have seen the signs a few years ago. When some folks within the LAGTV complained about the cover of Far Cry 4 being racist. assets.vg247.com/current//2014… I protested because for one, an illustration of a bad guy tormenting someone should not be deemed racist or what so ever, plus, "They" never specify whether or not its the character being racist or the artist being racist, which leaves a lot of room to weasel words around. Not to mention that the bad guy in Pink suit, Pagan Min, is from Hong Kong. He is tormenting another East Asian in the cover. The race issue was not there. However, I pretty much got ignored. That really ticked me off because they knew I am a Chinese Canadian and I thought my input would be at least considered.
It gets even better last year when Overwatch became a thing, someone important from LAGTV complained that Mei doesn't look Chinese enough for her skin tone and her eye shape. Thing is Mei is meant to have the anime look (context, personality, art style and such) and East Asians can get fairly pale. If you don't believe me, bring up a photo of Yao Ming stand next to Pau Gasol, and there are East Asian people more pale than Yao Ming. Again, ignored by the "inner circle" and no one else bothered to say anything because "the inner circle" ignored me.
Here's the thing I eventually learned. Me being there and telling them these situations aren't racist at all essentially is a huge slap in their faces. Why? Because I pretty much denied their chances to "fight against racism". I think I became the Asian version of Uncle Tom there.
With the society getting more and more polarized, likes of me (Minorities who don't buy into identity politics) are going to become the Uncle Tom type characters in many eyes. Oh, talking about identity politic, I have seen people telling others that the casting of "The Last Airbender" was not racist. Than years later, these people ended up became the type who claim "Everything is racist, sexist.... you just have to point it out".
Whenever I am seeing my past work with this community it just brings back bad memories and make me wonder why on earth I ended up invested so much time and some money into a community that could (more like certainly will) turn on me.
You gotta remember this. This is a Youtube/Twitch community and this community orbits around MaximusBlack, NovaWar & their inner circle. Y'all know what's gonna happen to anyone who is not within the inner circle and raised an issue that doesn't rub well.
You seen this pattern happening all over the places, even before Internet communities became a thing. Including Micah Curtis (whose video was being mentioned by me in the conversation you see in the imgur link). The guy has a lot of insider scoop and it shows that if someone even dare to question the "tune", said person would likely get the "shadowbanned" or slowly rejected by the circle.
I am done and I need to walk away from this. I wasted 4 years of my time and for what end. Its like World of Warcraft eating my life pre 2010 again. How foolish of me thinking expanding horizon and meeting more people would make me happy. Another thing, I live in Canada and the recent events make me extra wary of things. If you are well informed, you know what I speak of.
I will keep this account open for a few days because deactivate this will wipe the journal clean and I don't want to leave people wondering.
